Need help with your digestive health?
Here are some tips to help keep your digestive flow on track this year: 1 Incorporate healthy bacteria in your diet Factors such as stress, lack of sleep, antibiotics, illness, aging and poor diet choices can often lead to an imbalance of your digestive tract bacteria. Certain probiotics, mostly found in dairy products and some fortified cereals, can help to maintain the balance of “good” bacteria in the digestive tract. Try a daily helping of yogurt with probiotics, such as Activia. 2 Keep the fiber on deck Consistently eating the right amount of fiber can help promote bowel function. High-fiber foods such as fruit, vegetables and whole grains also help you feel full, which can help lower your chance of overeating throughout the day. Keeping a running tab on the fiber you consume can help give you more energy.

Eat smaller, more frequent meals. Smaller meals are easier on the digestive system. Instead of 2 or 3 large meals, try 4 or 5 smaller meals. Eat more slowly. All too often, we eat in a rush and barely take the time to taste and chew our food. But chewing helps make food easier to digest. Try to chew and savour each bite.

Hair Loss – Home Treatment
Hair Transition Tip #4: Deep Condition Rescue your hair with protein treatments and weekly moisturizing deep treatment with heat to maintain strength and prevent breakage while transitioning. Hair Transition Tip #5: Have Patience Avoid the temptation to have a Big Chop to get it over with and wait for your new hair to grow out as this could lead to a return to the relaxer and cause confidence issues related to your hair. Hair Transition Tip #6: Be Flexible Transitioning and natural hair is anything but predictable. Accept it for what it is that day as tomorrow will better and try using bobby pins, a bun, a swoop, a pomp or whatever it takes to temporarily make a bad hair day feel better. Hair Transition Tip #7: Be Educated Educate yourself on hair care methods and styling optionsits the lack of skill and knowledge that send many running back to that flat iron or relaxer.

Hair Loss? It May Be Iron Deficiency
This may be easier for women because inherited hair loss ( androgenetic alopecia ) causes a general thinning that is usually not as severe as it is in men. Hair sprays, dyes, and perms can help make the hair appear fuller. In women with inherited hair loss, hair care and the occasional use of grooming products, hair sprays, hair color, teasing, permanents, or frequent washing will not increase hair loss. But if your hair loss is caused by hair care, then perms and dyes may contribute to more hair loss. Recommended Related to Hair Loss See All Male Pattern Baldness Topics

Stop Your Hair Loss with This Latest Hair Care Advice from Dr. Oz
A review of 40 years of research shows that iron deficiency has a much closer link to hair loss than most doctors realize. It may be the key to restoring hair growth, Cleveland Clinic dermatologists find. “We believe that treatment for hair loss is enhanced when iron deficiency, with or without anemia , is treated,” Leonid Benjamin Trost, MD; Wilma Fowler Bergfeld, MD; and Ellen Calogeras, RD, MPH, write in the May issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. It’s a controversial issue. Not every study shows a link between iron deficiency and hair loss.

Pregnancy Time-Lapse Video: A Walk Through Seven States
Its levels can fluctuate in the first weeks of gestation, and even remain low in some women. Thats one reason why doctorsand Clearbluesay it cant replace an ultrasound and clinical diagnosis. Earlier on in pregnancy, theres a much narrower range of hCG levels, but as pregnancy progresses, there becomes a much wider range. Using it to actually date a pregnancy is much more challenging once youre a few weeks along, which is usually about when we actually see patients, says Proudfit. For some, the value of the new test may simply be historical. Women treasure their tests as reminders of their first steps toward parenthood, and pregnancy tests themselves have experienced an interesting evolution.

Gestational Diabetes Risk Pointed Out With Pre-Pregnancy Hormone Testing
Researchers found that normal-weight women with low levels of adiponectin were 3.5 times more likely to develop gestational diabetes than their normal-weight peers with normal levels of the hormone. Additionally, overweight women with high levels of adiponectin were 1.7 times as likely to develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy, while those with the lowest levels were 6.8 times more likely. “Our findings indicate important pregnancy interventions may be possible before a woman even conceives,” said Monique M. Hedderson, PhD, principal investigator of the study and research scientist with the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland, Calif. “Adiponectin levels are easy and inexpensive to measure and could potentially be used to identify women who are at risk for gestational diabetes.” The relationship between low adiponectin levels prior to pregnancy and the risk of diabetes was highly significant among the study group, according to the researchers, and it increased among women with higher body mass indexes (BMI), even after the data was adjusted for confounding factors such as family history of diabetes, race, smoking and blood glucose and insulin levels. This study included women who volunteered to participate in Kaiser Permanente’s multiphasic health check up exam, therefore the population may be more health conscious than the general population.
